For my action project so far, I went to Mundy Park to pick up litter. This time, I went on my own since I wasn’t able to find someone to join me. I went out on Saturday evening, and the weather was beautiful. I ended up staying for a couple of hours because it was so nice outside, and it doesn’t usually get dark until around 9 PM. I chose Mundy Park because it’s close to my school, which allowed me to expand my project to a nearby area as well.

One success I had was finding the time to go out and do my action project. This felt like an accomplishment because my schedule has been really busy lately. I’m graduating this year, so I have a lot to prepare for in the upcoming weeks. Another success was remembering to bring my AirPods. Since I was going out alone, listening to music made the experience more enjoyable and helped the time go by faster. Lastly, the weather turned out to be nice that evening, which made the whole outing even more successful since the weather has been unpredictable this month.

One of the challenges I faced during my action project was not finding much garbage to pick up. At first, this felt like a problem, but I soon realized it was actually a good sign. Mundy Park is known as one of the cleanest and best parks in Coquitlam, which explains why there wasn’t much litter. This is supported by the article Find Your Abode, which highlights that Mundy Park is known for its well-maintained trails and natural beauty (1). Another challenge was not finding anyone to come with me, since most people I asked had busy schedules with graduation coming up. I overcame this by learning to be more independent, staying positive, and deciding to go out on my own. As I previously stated, I also brought my AirPods to make the time more enjoyable; however, I noticed that they weren’t fully charged when they died partway through the outing to pick up litter. To overcome this next time, I will make sure to be more prepared by charging them completely.

For the next part of my action project, I plan to do a park clean-up at Lafarge Lake since my brother and I are planning to go there next weekend. We’ll devote some time during our outing to pick up litter to help make our community a cleaner place, all while spending some quality time together.
