Hi everyone!

For my action project, I am making and selling baked goods, all of the proceeds are going to be donated to the BCSPCA to help animals in need. So far, I have baked and sold 20 cookies and 10 cupcakes for my dad’s colleagues at UBC, charging fifty cents per cookie and three dollars per cupcake. and I baked and sold another 20 cookies to my mom who would give them out to her clients at ProActive Pilates. In total, that is fifty dollars. This is great progress on my goal of sixty dollars, only ten dollars left!.
I’m very proud that I branched out from cookies and put in some more effort on my part. I think the lemon raspberry cupcakes were a hit, so that is a huge success! I wanted to make something new so that people could enjoy having a variety of different treats.

It was a relatively smooth process because I had tested the recipe a few days prior to making the big batch, and I was able to address some issues. My main challenge was that when I tested the recipe, the cupcakes had not fully baked through the middle, so when I made the large batch, I added more baking powder and kept the cupcakes in the oven for an extra three minutes. Recipe testing is essential before making large batches so that you can identify problems or create substitutions for different ingredients(1). This ensured that my cupcakes baked perfectly.
After three bake sales, I was unable to reach my goal of $60, so I’m planning to continue these sales. I think they are good for many reasons. I help animals in need, which allows me to practice baking and try new foods and recipes. I can also make people’s days better with a treat every once in a while. Since this is my final blog post before my reflection, I donated the money that had been saved up to the BCSPCA. I’m very happy to know that I’m making a difference in animal lives, and I hope to continue doing so.
