blog post #7 How could Canada’s infrastructure be developed to lessen traffic – METAMORPHOSIS

For this project, I researched Canada’s major cities’ traffic issues and ways to fix them by seeing what other places around the world do. A big challenge I had to overcome was finding concrete answers to my questions. At first researching and finding good information was difficult since every site I would see was just talking about how bad the issue was and not what is causing it or how to fix it. To overcome this, I had to look at a bunch of different sites and come to an informed conclusion by myself.

One way this inquiry changed the way I think is by looking at not so obvious causes to answer problems. It might be because I’ve never really thought long about the subject, but I hadn’t thought about how cities having been divided into different sectors like shopping, working and living could have major effects on traffic. I hadn’t thought about how we could change this and that it could have major changes if we did.

I already use public transport daily and often multiple times a day, but this investigation might impact my future decisions when I have the ability to drive. I might choose to use another mode of transport instead of just using my car for daily tasks and errands. It might also affect who I chose to support politically and urge people in power to do things to help fix this issue.

If more people were informed about the issue and were willing to give up comfortability until the fixes become mainstream and part of our culture, our cities, day-to-day lives, time and even the health of the environment could be positively affected.

Thank you so much for reading!
