a. What challenges did you overcome throughout this inquiry project? How did you go about overcoming these challenges?
One of the biggest challenges I faced during this inquiry was narrowing down such a massive topic. There’s a lot of information out there about music, psychology, and the brain, and it was overwhelming to decide which areas to focus on. To manage this, I created a step-by-step plan that guided my research: first understanding the science behind music and the brain, then exploring how different genres affect productivity, and finally connecting it all to real-life experiences. This structure helped me stay organized and avoid getting lost in too many side topics.
b. How did this inquiry change the way you think?
Before starting this project, I had a general idea that music could influence emotions and concentration, but I thought it was mostly based on personal opinion. Now, I understand that there’s actual neuroscience behind it, certain types of music can trigger dopamine release, activate memory centers, and even help stroke or dementia patients recover cognitive functions. It made me realize how powerful music truly is, not just as entertainment but as a tool that affects our brain in real and measurable ways.
c. How did this investigation impact your future decisions?
This inquiry will definitely influence how I use music in my daily life, especially when I’m studying, working, or managing stress. I plan to be more intentional with the music I choose like using instrumental or classical tracks when I need to focus, and upbeat playlists when I need a mood boost. It also made me more interested in fields like music therapy and neuroscience, which could influence the types of courses or careers I explore in the future.
d. What impact will this investigation have on others locally and/or globally?
Locally, I think my findings could help other students and young people in my community who are looking for natural ways to improve focus or manage stress. Globally, the more people understand the connection between music and mental health, the more it could be used in classrooms, hospitals, and workplaces to support wellness. If we view music as more than a form of entertainment, as something that can heal, motivate, and enhance performance, it could change how we approach learning, health care, and even productivity in society.
