About Me – Vanessa Vukovic

Hello! My name is Vanessa Vukovic and I am 16 years old. I am currently a grade eleven student attending Charles Best Secondary School and live in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. This is my second year taking Social Responsibility, and I’m thrilled to be back! My favourite subject in school is English as I find the course fascinating, given the endless possibilities to perform art through text. It is very captivating to see how other people express themselves through the form of writing as well!

I initially found out about Social Responsibility through the course selection sheet last year, in addition to my older sister who has taken this class previously. While reading what this course is all about, one thing that caught my eye was that this class is an independent study, meaning that I have the freedom to pick a topic of interest and dive deep to immerse myself with more knowledge about the subject matter. Therefore, I was excited to have the opportunity of learning more beyond the core classes on my timetable, and branch out to discover more about the things I have a passion for, or just for the sake of curiosity. I’m taking this class for the second year as I thoroughly enjoyed the concepts learned last year. For the reasons stated, I chose to do research on two inquiry projects this past year, and am overjoyed to be given the chance to branch out to different topics of interest this school year!

A passion of mine is playing Soccer. I currently play for the Coquitlam Metro Ford Soccer Club for the past six years. I love the game as it is very simple to play, with barely any equipment needed, where it can be played anywhere by anyone. I play soccer for many different reasons, but just to name a few, I play because it brings communities together, requires teamwork, and creates lasting memories.

Another passion I have is travelling to new places and discovering more about the beautiful cities available to see worldwide. I love to travel as it helps me explore different ways of life and gives me more insight on cultures. A substantial reason on why I love to travel so much is because it is beautiful to get out of the “everyday routine” and go on thrill-seeking adventures whilst stepping out of my comfort zone. Learning about topics in a textbook is one thing, but will never compare to what one may learn when travelling to fascinating destinations, and absorbing so much information about different parts around the world, with a rich history.

In my free time, I enjoy cooking, running, biking, and watching my favourite TV shows! I like to cook as it is super relaxing and once I complete a recipe, I feel a sense of accomplishment, especially when I cook for my family and friends. At the end of a tough day, I like to kick back and relax while watching a good show as well. Some of my favourite series I have watched so far are Gilmore Girls, This is Us, Lost, and The Bear! Bike riding is also a fun activity. I usually hit the trails in Mundy Park which is conveniently located close to home. Although, the longest bike ride I went on was 52 kilometers, starting from Lake Country (the Okanagan Valley region of B.C) to Vernon!

I hope you learned a little bit more about me! Thank you very much for reading!
