Hi everyone! I found the values activity to be quite challenging, in my opinion all of the values are important. With that being said my three most important values are equality, freedom, and justice. My three least important values are tradition, power, and spiritual growth. I actually do agree with the results of this activity, I think they describe me very well. Also I found the statements to be very accurate to what the values were. I believe the activity could benefit from more values being added such as loyalty, and creativity. In my eyes freedom means not being oppressed and having the right to your own decisions/opinions and to be able to freely express them. Equality means everybody being on the same playing field, and justice for me means getting consequences for your actions and mistakes. Its interesting that this activity makes us say what these values mean to us, they all have their proper definitions but different things have different meanings to everyone.
My Example:
This year my family went on a trip to Croatia, we visited my moms family and explored the country. Even though Croatia is one of the smallest countries in Europe we ended up getting lost. My older brother recently got his license, he loves driving. He wanted to take the wheel and drive us around the country in the red van we rented. My parents reluctantly agreed (he begged them). We were driving to our third stop of the trip, Gospić; my grandmas hometown. My brother somehow got us lost. Lost in a foreign country in the middle of nowhere with no wi-fi, it looked pretty bad. That was exactly my dads point of view. It made sense why he was frustrated but it was unfair of him to treat my brother the way he did. I became aware of the fact he was treated unfairly and tried to mend the situation. I made everyone listen to the different point of views and I made sure nobody was talking over anyone. I wanted to make sure everyone in my family got to say what they were thinking. I listened to all the perspectives, and I decided we were all exhausted so it caused us to overreact, and say things we didn’t mean. We were able to get our argument resolved and find our way to the new hotel. I’m sure we can all agree traveling can be tiring so I think the main lesson here is that everyone’s opinion matters and to take a second and think about what to say to our family/friends. In my opinion this example shows resilience, justice, and equality.
Future Example:
There aren’t enough family doctors in Canada. My family experienced this first hand when my grandmas doctor moved away. We could not find a doctor, we called everywhere with no luck. To help fix this problem I could write to my member of parliament and highlight the need for doctors in Canada. Also provide my families example in hopes that the government takes this situation seriously. This example supports all three of my core values. Everyone should have equal access to a doctor, be able to freely choose a doctor, and provides justice to people desperately searching for a doctor. This is a universal right.

Upon researching the 17 United Nations goals I found that my values align the most with the third goal, “Good Health And Wellbeing For All”. My passion falls within the same goal. So many health issues could be treated and potentially cured if they were caught early on, but people can not afford healthcare. Their problems go unseen for so long until their daily activities start to become challenges. So many lives could be saved if everyone had access to free health care. Something that also falls under this category is Mental health. It is not specifically mentioned by the United Nations but I think it is just as important as physical health. In fact untreated poor mental health can start to impact physical health. For this project I will be mainly focusing on peoples mental health, in hopes that putting them in a good state of mind will somewhat ease their physical pain.
“You Have 1000 Problems Until You Have a Health Problem – Then You Only Have One”
For my action to address this goal I will be trying to support cancer patients and their families metal health. I am going to create handwritten cards with personal supportive/uplifting messages and buy the best flowers I can find. Then I am going to go to the Cancer center in Surrey and put the cards and flowers on cars parked in the parking lot. The weather might be a problem because we live in B.C. (as it always seems to be raining here) so I might have to put the cards in plastic baggies. I think this action would support peoples metal health while they are going through a hard time. My hope is to bring a little joy to their day.
I would like to encourage everyone reading this blog to go to their local cancer center and continue this action by handing out cards and flowers. Try to be the reason someone smiles today.💕
Inspiration 😉😀
