Blog Post #2 | Project Plan | Asmi Garg

My inquiry question I plan to research is, “How much influence does social environment have on the advancement of women?”

Firstly, I plan to answer three main questions in my research plan: what is the problem (?), how can we find a solution (?), and what is a feasible way to implement this solution (?). In my belief, these questions will help me to grasp a greater understanding of the depth of the Women’s Rights Movement, and how I, and others my age, can do our parts to fix it.

My first question is what is the problem? For this question, I plan to use sources like The International Rescue Committee’s awareness projects in the past to educate me on how womens health risks, political say, and even monetary equality are affected by prejudice, and how protests in the past were able to spread awareness about this issue. I also plan to cite the Canadian Women’s Foundation to see how Indigenous women in Canada can also feel similar effects, and how racial profiling, racism, and insensitivity can affect a whole population.

My second question is how can we find a solution? In this field, I’d like to use reliable sources to corroborate my prior knowledge, like using UN Women, a foundation created by the United Nations for women, by women. I appreciate sources like this because they provide a perspective from a myriad of places globally; on this website, I can find information from Sudan to China, all over the world. I’ll also be using articles written by journalists, who can provide a more insightful, personal approach to prominent problems affecting large groups of people. News sites like the New York Times can have a really broad spectrum of opinions, which can feel refreshing after more critical outlooks on the same topic.

My final, third question is what is a feasible way to implement this solution? I chose this question because I believe it can help me to discern a broad, general opinion, from a specific course of action that is feasible for not only me, but peers of any gender or sexual identity, and raising awareness about how not only women, but LGTBQIA+ community members are treated can create more sympathy, and therefore attention to the issue. I plan to use the World Health Organization’s articles to bring a medical insight into my research, and to apply an unbiased perspective.

In conclusion, I strive to create my project planning process in such a way that I can have a broad diversity of points of view on my topic, so that I can have research that is conclusive, corroborative, and encompassing. I hope to provide a project that I can be proud of in the future, and that brings worthy schools of thought into a public conversation that has needed to be had.
