1. Summary of the Action and How We Will Start:
This semester, my group Golsa, Rima, and I are focusing on First Aid Awareness for Elementary Students. Our plan is to visit local elementary schools and deliver interactive first aid presentations. These sessions will include hands-on demonstrations, short videos, and fun games that help students remember what to do in real-life emergencies. We plan to start by reaching out to nearby schools to schedule our visits and collaborating with teachers to adjust our presentation to different age groups. Because we are all certified through the Red Cross, we feel confident teaching basic topics such as calling for help, treating minor cuts, and understanding the recovery position.

2. Complexity (‘Everything is complicated’):
One of the key messages from the TEDx talk is that “everything is complicated,” and we recognize that even a well-intentioned project like ours comes with challenges. For example, explaining medical concepts to younger children can be tricky, we need to simplify information without losing accuracy. Each school may also have different safety policies, so organize sessions and getting permission from staff or parents could take time. Additionally, keeping students focused and engaged requires creative teaching methods, which will take planning and practice.
3. Sustainability of the Action:
Yes, this action can be sustainable with the right approach. Once we create our lesson plans and materials, they can be reused and shared with other student volunteers or schools in future years. We can also provide teachers with simple first aid resource sheets or short videos so they can continue reinforcing the lessons after our presentations. By building relationships with schools and possibly connecting with local Red Cross branches, our project can continue beyond this semester and reach more students.

4. Opportunity and Positive Impact:
This action definitely provides opportunity, for us to grow as leaders and educators, and for young students to gain life-saving knowledge early on. To ensure we make a real impact, we’ll measure engagement during sessions by asking questions, encouraging participation, and giving short practice activities. We can also collect feedback from teachers to see what worked best. Our hope is to empower children to feel calm and capable in emergencies, turning what could be fear into confidence.
Expert Collaboration:
We plan to reach out to a local Red Cross instructor or first aid trainer to review our content and possibly join one of our sessions. Their professional insight will help ensure our information is accurate and our teaching methods are safe and effective.
