Blog Post #4

1.) Where are you with your action?

  1. Hello! This post is an update from the previous post. This week, we managed to get in contact with a teacher at Baker Drive Elementary School and discussed our idea, schedules and future plans. For example, throughout the discussion, we realized that the students had previously learned a little about first aid, but they loved it and would be interested in expanding their knowledge. In addition, we also discussed times of the week and day the students would be available to learn. We also have to coordinate our schedules and off-blocks to see which one of us would be available to teach the class during which days.

2.) What are some successes that you have had?

2. One of the biggest successes has been actually finding a school and specific class that is interested in contributing to our project and learning something from it as well. In addition, we have managed to actually find our shared times with the school and coordinate how we will present to the class. Also, we are brainstorming in-depth ideas that we want to incorporate into our presentation and open discussions about. In general, I would say this week has had way more successes than challenges which is great! It is important to celebrate the small victories, to ensure long-term success for this project (1).

3.) What are some challenges that you have faced?

One of the principle challenges this week was actually finding times that we would be available to teach the students, as we all have different lunch blocks; also, the given times by the teacher did not fully match the blocks in our schedule. For example, she said that one session we could attend was from 9:00-9:40 which overlaps with both block 1 and 2. This poses a bit of a challenge, but I am glad we are over our biggest challenge which was actually finding a teacher that would be interested in our project. I am sure we will be able to get through this small obstacle as well. To solve this challenge, we are planning on working our some different times which fall into one singular block, and then seeing which one of our group members would be available to attend the session.

4.) What are you doing next and why?

Next, we are planning on working out the date(s) we are planning on attending, so we can have a clear schedule with the school and class, avoiding further conflicts and obstacles. Specifically for next week, we will contact back, work out more details for our presentation, and set up a date.
