The question I chose to try and answer this semester with my inquiry project was “How might climate change affect life in my community in the next 50 years?”
What challenges did you overcome throughout this inquiry project? How did you go about overcoming these challenges
A big challenge I faced while researching for my project was that lots of sources provided the same/very similar information. I had to search for many credible sources to be able to address everything I had planned to. There were also moments during the project when I didn’t have quite as much time as I had originally thought to research for and write my posts, so I sacrificed quite a few off blocks to ensure all my posts were at a quality I was content with.

How did this inquiry change the way I think?
The biggest way this inquiry project changed the way I think was how serious I thought the impacts of climate change were. After doing all my research and reaching my final verdict, I have concluded that our situation is a lot more dire than I expected. Fortunately, my research has also given me ways we can slow down/prevent the impacts; like recycling more, making your commute greener, and switching fluorescent light bulbs with LED. With this project, I am now more eco-conscious about everything I do in my daily life and I continue to strive to minimize my carbon footprint.

How did this investigation impact your future decisions?
Like I mentioned previously, my investigation helps me be more eco-conscious about how I live my life in the future. Throughout this project, I have found myself paying more attention to sorting my waste and turning off lights in rooms I’m leaving. I will also continue to try and further educate my family and friends about the possible future risks and preventative measures we can take.

What impact will this investigation have on others locally and/or globally?
My question was centred around our area, but most of my research was pulled from global sources and statistics. My investigation impacts my community because these are the real things that could happen to us in the future. Climate change is also a growing global problem, and in my investigation I covered everything from the ice to the coral reefs. Many of the possible impacts I listed in my 5th blog post can also apply in lots of other parts of the world, which also takes this investigation global.

Overall, this project allowed me to further educate myself on a topic I’m passionate about in a creative and open manner. My goal for this project was to shed more light onto climate change and just how detrimental it could be to our future, and I feel that I have been successful in that. I really enjoyed my first project in this class and I can’t wait to do more!
Thank you for reading!!
