Hi everyone, and welcome to my final blog post of the year! This blog post will be a reflection of my second-semester action project. I raised money through bake sales for the BCSPCA.
What challenges did you overcome throughout this action project? How did you go about
overcoming these challenges?
Time management was a big challenge. Balancing school, activities, and baking required a clear plan. I scheduled different items to be made on different days. I made cookies ahead the night before sales, and cupcakes closer to the sale. I prepped ingredients early to stay organized. I also ran into baking issues. One batch of cookies looked done but was raw inside. I adjusted the recipe by flattening the dough and tweaking the oven temperature and time. Testing small batches of recipes before making the items to sell helped ensure everything came out properly baked. Pricing was another challenge. I wanted it to be fair but still raise money. After checking what other school fundraisers charged in the past, I tried to keep all of my prices under three dollars.

How did this action change the way you think?
This project showed me that even small efforts, like a bake sale, can make a real difference. I used to think fundraising needed big events or lots of people, but now I see how simple actions can have an impact. It also taught me that people are often more generous and supportive than I expected. For example, some buyers gave extra donations because they cared about helping animals. Overall, I learned that passion and persistence, even on a small scale, can inspire change and support important causes.
How did this investigation/action impact your future decisions?
This project helped me discover a real love for baking. It’s something I hadn’t explored much before, but now I’m considering pursuing it as either a career path or a long-term hobby. Because of this experience, I’ve decided to take Foods 11 next school year to learn more about cooking and baking. That way, I’ll be better informed when making decisions about what I want to do in the future. It also taught me useful skills like planning, time management, and budgeting. All of these will help me in whatever path I choose.

What impact will this investigation/action have on others locally and/or globally?
Locally, the bake sale raised both money and awareness for the BC SPCA. I was happy to spread awareness about the importance of supporting the wellbeing of these animals. Although the bake sales were small, it helped promote a sense of care and responsibility for animals within the community. Small actions like this, when combined, can lead to bigger positive changes for animals.
