About Me – Ciara Fenrick

Hi! My name is Ciara Fenrick. I am 15 years old and a grade 10 student at École Dr. Charles Best Secondary School in Coquitlam, BC, Canada. I do not really have a favorite school subject, but one I am enjoying right now is French 10. This is my second year attending IDS Social Responsibility, and I am happy to be back.

I joined IDS Social Responsibility this year because I want to improve on this course and expect to improve. Last year, I felt like I was not that initiated into the course. I was not the best at handing my assignments in on time, and not great at talking. I mean sure it was only my first year, but it is not an excuse. I love this course, and I want to make a better effort for it. This year, I plan on being more prepared for this course. I plan to hand all my assignments in on time, being more open and prepared for speaking, whether it is to a small group, future ninth graders or on video call. I plan to find interesting topics for both first and second semester assignments.

Film is something that I am passionate about. I love watching films whenever I can. I get to see different worlds through different characters, stories, and emotions. Films can be any genre, whether it is a comedy or a horror. Personally, I enjoy thrillers/dramas the most. Films teach me new things about the world in general. They inspire me a lot. Right now, I am taking Film and Tv 11/12 as my elective this year. Even though the school year just started, I have already learned a lot from the course and am excited to learn more about film.

For me, I would rather be the worst player on the best team, than the best player on the worst team. Sure, you may be the worst player, but that does not mean you will stay that way forever. How I see it, surrounding yourself with people that are the best, makes you the best. They can teach and challenge you overtime on how to be a better player. It is a chance to grow as a person, and that is important. I would feel more motivated to try if I were the worst player, instead of the best.

Of the three categories, I am most interested in inquiry. I love doing and reading inquiry projects. They are always so interesting. I am most interested in inquiry because I learn a lot from them. I get to pick my own question that I am curious about, and answer it overtime through research. Inquiry is fun for me. It does not really feel like work to me, which I love. I am planning to do an inquiry project for my first semester and looking forward to it.
