Jennah Brar’s All About Me Bio project

Introduction:

Hello, my name is Jennah Kaur Brar . I ‘m a 14-year-old girl, and I was born at 8: 07 AM in Calgary, Alberta, on March 3rd, 2011, at Peter Lougheed Medical Centre. I moved to BC in 2020 at the age of 9 because my father had originally accepted a job offer to become a mortgage broker. A few months later , we moved. I have moved houses around three times since 2020 because we have been renting from my grandpa. I’m currently a freshman in high school (grade 9), and I attend Dr. Charles Best Secondary School . Although I wasn’t born here in BC, I still consider it home and where I grew up, considering I have lived here for about 5 years now. Currently, my favorite subject in school is Social Studies because I love to learn about how we got here and how the world developed to where we are now.

Today, I ‘ll be covering the subjects of my passions, one thing about me that might surprise others, my heritage, what I do in my free time, what the word “community” means to me, and much more.

My passions:

My interest in life at the moment that’s helping to shape my future is cheerleading. Over the past few years, I have been a competitive cheerleader, and I’ve had to work hard for whatever team I’ve ever been on because , if I’m being honest, the coaches never really liked me – including the coaches I have right now. That ‘s made me want to quit. However, I know that since I love it so much, quitting won’t help me ; it will discourage me, and I’ll end up doing a sport that I don’t like. Up until now, I’ve moved up from level 1 to 3 and am still progressing. I’ve been a competitive cheerleader at Vancouver All Stars for 4 years now, and I’m on a U18 level 3 team called Hurricane. I’m also one of the people who gets thrown into the air, who are referred to as flyers. On the team I’m on now, I’m a center flyer, as is my friend Amelia. In conclusion, cheerleading is one of the things I love, and it has helped me become stronger and not listen to the people who have nothing better to do than to bully and discourage me.

Two things about me that might surprise others:

One thing about me that might surprise others when I talk about it is that I have more than 16 cousins on my mom ‘s side. I’m not going to lie; I have a pretty big family , including my mom and dad’s side. However, I’m only going to talk about the people living in my household. I used to have a family of 9 living in my house back in 2019 , but now I have a family of 6 in 2025. Over the years, I have gained and lost family members (2019-2025) , and these numbers include me.

Reasons

Mets : When my family and I had to move from Alberta, she wasn’t able to move with us due to having family and friends in Alberta and not wanting to start over after all the progress she had made from moving from the Philippines.

Baba: Unfortunately , back in 2022, my baba (grandpa) sadly passed away. It was December 6th, 2022, at 7: 02 PM. 😞

Morgan: Also, when we moved away from Alberta, Morgan wasn’t able to come with us due to the rules that my grandpa from my mom’s side has in his houses because we are renting from him. We thought she would have a better life living in Calgary , where she was born and raised. So now she’s living with my aunt, with occasional visits from us here.

But if I’m being honest, I have always been the one taking care of her the most (even when we visit her), talking about her, and just loving her in general. Although I wasn’t the one who convinced my parents to get her, I have definitely been the one loving her the most over the past 10 years she’s been in our lives.

But that’s not the only thing that surprises others about me. The other thing is my pain tolerance and my latest injury. A couple of months ago, I broke my hand before the biggest cheer competition I would ever have in Florida. I broke it at the practice before my flight, and my parents weren’t going with me because they were all in Mexico for my cousin’s wedding. Later, when I got there, my coaches taped me up, and I competed with broken fingers. Two and a half weeks later, I got home and had surgery. I couldn’t do anything for six weeks (they still haven’t healed fully six months later). Up until now, the doctors have stated that they will correct themselves, but I don’t believe them because all they have done is gotten worse (I can show you ; they are sideways and angled). If they do not get better, I will eventually need another surgery, and this time around, they will cut my hand open and put metal rods in them to assure they stay straight.

My heritage :

If you didn’t already know, I’m Indian, and most of my family originated from India (they were born and raised in India). Although I wasn’t born in India, it’s still a huge part of my life, background, and heritage; more so, it’s my culture (eventhough I can’t speak the language). Most of my family in India is from my dad’s side, but I still do have family from my mom’s side living there (not as much as my dad’s side). From my dad’s side , everyone was born and raised there. Afte rmy aunt Bubby, everyone thought that it would be good for us to be born and raised in Canada for a better life. Although I still do have little cousins there , from my mother’s side , they were almost all born in Canada except for everyone before my grandparents. But me, my cousins, my sisters, etc. (from my dad’s side) were all born and raised in Canada , some in Alberta, BC, Ontario, etc. As I mentioned before, I was born and raised in Alberta up until the age of 9.

What do I do in my free time /things I love:

In my free time, I do many things, such as tumbling , watching movies, coloring , reading, and much more. Something very important to know about me is that I’m much of a homebody and like to stay home (I don’t normally hang out with my friends outside of school and cheer because I love to be at home). It’s not that I don’t like to; it’s just that being at home makes me comfortable, and it’s my time to be myself and wind down (knowing this will help you understand the things Ido in my free time and why I don’t spend time around many people). I’m currently only going to talk about two .

In my spare time, I practice makeup on my sister and on a mannequin head that my mom had when she was a makeup artist. Like I said, I’m a cheerleader, and I need to wear makeup; ultimately, I need to be good at it so I don’t look like a clown. Fun fact: I love blush so much; I have a lot of it and love to wear it (mainly because it’s pink).

And finally, the shows I watch consist of The Rookie, The Summer I Turned Pretty, Grey’s Anatomy, My Life with the Walter Boys, etc. Essentially , shows like that. I also watch reality TV and drama. My favorite categories are romance, teen drama, and TV shows like The Rookie.

What does the word Community means to me:

In my own words, the word community is a group of people that share the same passions, beliefs , intentions, and even goes as far as to say living in the same neighborhood. What I mean by this is like a sport, an example being cheerleading. In cheerleading, we athletes and coaches are a community representing a common passion and talent we all share. In cheerleading , even though we have rival teams or gyms, we all represent and share the same values that we would all like to represent and share with the world. That ‘s like with almost any sport.

For me, I value my family (this is only 1 example). I know this is what most people say and do value very much. I do agree that it’s what people should value most. I value them because they’re my number one fans ; they support me no matter what, they take care of me , and that’s what I love about them is that they’ll never let me down. I like to think of my whole family as one big loving and kind community. But of course, the word ” community ” has different symbolizations and meanings for many different people, and I think that because it’s such a flexible word, it holds great power among many groups and individuals. This is just my open and honest opinion on the word.

The category I picked and why :

The category that I chose out of the three for my Butterfly Effect Project is Inquiry and Story. I chose to do Story as my first one (for Semester 1) and Inquiry for my second semester one. I picked both of these in hope that I will be able to write a formal question and respond to it clearly and efficiently with good information, and information that I ‘ll be able to share with many other individuals and discuss it in-depthly. I chose to do Story as well because I want to be able to share my personal experiences with many people and be able to justify my subject. I want to be able to write an actual story for many other people to understand and potentially analyze. I know I didn ‘ t mention this before, but I do feel that I have decent writing skills and good grammar. I also consider English one of my best subjects, and I really enjoy it. I’m 100% hoping to achieve my goals and create two beautiful projects this year for Social Responsibility.

My education:

Something about me is that I’m very involved with my future, my education, and my schoolwork, which means I want to go to an exceptional university somewhere else in the world (not Canada), preferably in the United States (I clearly have big plans and big dreams, and I’m willing to get loads of help to achieve my dreams). I also want to become valedictorian; it’s been my dream for many years (I’ve even started writing my speech). With that, I always make dream boards/achievement boards to see what I want to achieve and how I’ll achieve it.

Conclusion/a quote I wanted to share:

At the end of my biography project, I thought it would be fun to share a quote that I will forever stand by and that holds a very special spot in my heart. This quote represents almost everything I stand for and much more. My quote is from my culture, and many might think that it’s weird or that it sounds weird because it’s in a different language. But that doesn’t matter because it means something very near and dear to my heart. It’s “Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh.” It’s basically a saying that Sikhs say when they are welcoming someone into their home, building, etc. It ‘s something we all say in our culture, and it’s also a sign of respect.

Thank you for Reading and I hope you learnt so much About me!

  1. Hi Jennah, I really admire your strength in sharing your story. Your determination to do well in cheerleading, especially through injuries and challenges, really stood out and shows how resilient you are. I also loved how you explained what community means to you through family and cheer. How do you think cheerleading has shaped the goals you have for your future?
