All about me!

Hi! My name is Golsa, and I am a 16 year old student currently attending Dr. Charles Best Secondary. I am very excited to share more about myself on this post! I was born and raised in Iran, until I moved to Montreal in 2017, then moved to Vancouver a few months later.

One thing that might be interesting people who are not familiar with my culture is that us Persians celebrate the new years the same day as the spring equinox. What makes it more interesting is that it is celebrated down to the exact second that the spring equinox begins which is different depending on where you are in the world and what time it begins. Also, there are more celebrations that relate to the start of a new season. For example is the holiday Yalda; which is the celebration for the winter solstice celebrated by eating lots of pomegranate, watermelons, and different traditions that follow with it. As for myself, I believe that family is very important in life, and they hold a special place in my heart no matter how far away they are. Below is a picture of the Haft Sin, a traditional spread of items used to celebrate the new years which all have different representations for what comes out of the new year.

One thing about me that might surprise other is that I want to explore the world, until I know where I want to spend the rest of my life. I think that this sense of moving comes from the amount of times that I have moved places during my own childhood.

If I could have any job right now, I would choose to be a lawyer, because it has been a lifelong dream of mine to be a lawyer. However, it is a job that requires location stability so there have been some doubts about it in my head, so I would choose to be a lawyer because if I truly love a job, I would be willing to commit to a certain location for it.

If I could solve any global problem in the world, I would choose to have permanent world peace. Although there would still be conflicts like global warming and famine, I believe that if we have peaceful relations and governments in place, aid and income to support others will come with a little bit of time. If there is world peace, I think that it would be significantly easier to solve other global issues and conflicts, as everyone is working together to reach one big goal.

I am interested in doing an Action project, because I feel that it is the most hands-on way to help/innovate our local community. As a person, I always prefer to get things done in person and close to other people.
