My first research question is, what are some of Vancouver’s housing policies been in recent years? Studying this will help me address my question “How can housing policies evolve in Vancouver to help homelessness” as I will be able to identify what has worked and what hasn’t worked with homeless programs in the past. By studying the success and failure of the programs I can identify the main problems that still allow homelessness to grow in Vancouver.

My second research question is, what role does affordable housing supply play in preventing people from falling into homelessness in Vancouver? Studying this will help me address my problem as analyzing the role of affordable housing supply helps us understand how limited affordable options majorly impacts the risk of homelessness in Vancouver. By showing how affordable housing can stop people from becoming homeless, it can help us understand what changes could be made to Vancouver’s housing policies for the better.

My final research question is, how do people experiencing homelessness in Vancouver perceive existing housing programs, and what changes do they suggest? This addresses the problem by showing what is working and what isn’t from the perspective of people experiencing homelessness. Their experiences reveal problems in current housing programs and highlight areas where policies can change. Studying this can help us make effective changes to Vancouver’s housing policies that the homeless people actually want.

This question has implications for both myself and the community because knowing how well Vancouver’s housing policies are working can help us figure out better ways to deal with homelessness. For myself, it helps me understand the problems people face, I see a lot of homeless people and it make we wonder what they are put through everyday. It’s important to realize that they are only human to and they can only take so much before they need help. For the community, it can show which programs actually work and which ones need fixing, so the city can make housing better and safer. Doing research can also make more people interested which will make the local government more likely to change some of the policies.
