Blog post #2 (plot outline)

Hi! This is the plotline for my story; the main idea is to show both the advantages and disadvantages of technology. I’m using the future for the ‘backdrop’ of my story to make the message clearer and more impactful. 

Exposition: 
The main character Lola is living in the year 2050 and the government has been corrupted. She still lives her life as any other teenage girl, at least it’s normal for her. But, today is different. She wakes up as usual before something strange happens. 

Point of Attack: 
She hears a loud announcement which states that for the next 30 days technology will be shut off. She doesn’t understand why it’s happening and as a curious person she decides to investigate the deeper reason. 

Rising Action: 

1. Rising Action One – She tries to investigate old records of her city but is quickly stopped by her school’s librarian who tells her those records are long gone. She finds that the other libraires she searches in have the same problem.

2. She tries to continue her research independently but runs into problems at the lack of internet. She ends up finding a trail of notes that lead her to an abandoned building  

Climax:  

She’s immediately blindfolded and gagged on entering the building. She is put in the rumored ‘speaking prison’ where people who speak up too much are thrown. In this prison she meets her school librarian and discovers she was the one who left the notes, and she explains how she’s been secretly defying the government for years. She also explains how the building they’re in is the government headquarters so if she wants to take them down, she should do it from here. Lola manages to escape and makes it to a room full of screens which she discovers is to monitor citizens. In this room she meets the man behind it all who give his evil speech about how the citizens are all obeying him because of his genius plan to switch off technology, little does he know Lola’s broadcasting his every word to the public.  

Falling Action  
The spell is broken, and the citizen’s start a nation-wide protest on the current government.. They learn that together they are more powerful than the obedience craving leader and his many soldiers and seeing no escape he eventually steps down.

Resolution 
Lola is now an internet journalist and uses both her curious insight and modern technology to create a space for everyone to share their opinions. Her first post, “Technology; life saver or time waster?”
