To start the action of volunteering and helping around schools, Valeriya and I are going to firstly start by emailing schools. We will select a few schools in our neighborhood, preferably in a walking distance, and we will email their main offices. In said emails we will include: What this course is, what we can help with, etc. Hopefully, after reading they will accept our offer and we shall help with whatever tasks they need help with. For instance, explaining topics or organizing an d clean things around the school, to lift the work load off the teachers, enabling them to focus on teaching.
One lesson in the talk is that ‘Everything is complicated’. Can you explain some of the complexity that you will face in your action?
After listing to the insightful things that Alison Stuart explained in her lesson ‘Everything is complicated,’ some problems we might face while visiting the schools is that children might not see us as not respectable figures. The students might not listen or take us seriously, invalidating our leadership and they won’t be able to listen; refuting our efforts. Secondly, a second problem we might face is being unable to explain the subjects they are learning in a way they can comprehend. Different people learn in various ways, and we will have to adapt to each individual, so they understand.
Is this action sustainable? Provide some specific examples to support your reasoning.
This action is very sustainable, with the only possibility is being the amount of paper children might use for their work. An example on why this action is sustainable is because our transportation to said schools is walking. Instead of driving or using some sort of gas-powered vehicle we are strolling down to the schools, which is action that subsides the issue of climate change; small actions eventually add up to a great change. Thus, doing this demonstrates the qualities of being an overall eco-friendly and helpful action. also, we will be mindful of the amount of equipment we use and discard; if thrown away we will dispose in a eco-friendly manner.
Is this action providing opportunity? How will you ensure you are making the positive impact that you intend?
This action will provide positive impacts and opportunity for the students we will help and us. By assisting these children with whatever they are working on, gives us the valuable experience of teaching, which helps us decide if we would want to go down this path in life or if we possibly want to tutor children in the future. Furthermore, this is a very positive impact for the children, we will go through things that they might not fully understand, aiding their essential fundamentals, that they will need in the future. Overall, helping them later in life; like in high school or college. In summary, this action is positive for us and the students.
