Action Blog post #2

Hello! This is my second action blog post for semester 1.

I’ve actually already started my action project, which is Adopt a Park. What I do there is pretty simple. I go to the dog park near my area and pick up any trash that I find lying around. It’s honestly surprising how quickly the park can get messy again, but it always feels nice to leave it looking cleaner than when I arrived. Occasionally, I’ll come across something that could be considered “dangerous,” like broken glass or sharp metal pieces. When that happens, I report it to the school so that it can be handled safely and properly.

So far, I don’t think there will be many difficulties with this project. It’s a pretty straightforward task, and there’s really nothing that could stop me from heading to the park and doing my part, except maybe getting caught up with homework or extracurricular activities. Even then, I think I can find a good balance because it doesn’t take too long to clean up, and it’s something I can easily fit into my weekly routine.

I also think this action is sustainable in the long run. I might not be making a huge impact by just cleaning up every once in a while, but every bit counts. Keeping the park clean not only makes it look nicer but also makes it safer and more enjoyable for everyone, especially the dogs and their owners. Plus, it feels pretty good to contribute something positive to my community. I’ve been going once a week, but I’m thinking about maybe increasing that to twice a week if I can manage my time well.

This action is definitely providing opportunities for community building, improving my own well-being, and just spreading a bit of happiness to everyone who uses the park. I’ve noticed that sometimes when I’m cleaning up, I’ll see other people notice what I’m doing. They’ll smile, say thanks, and one time this guy even offered to help out for a few minutes. It’s nice to see that my actions can inspire others, even just a little, to care more about keeping our shared spaces clean.

It’s also great for my own well-being. Spending time outside, moving around, and doing something positive for the community really boosts my mood. It makes me feel productive and connected to the place I live in. It’s also just kind of satisfying to just focus on the task and see the difference by the time I’m done.

(To be honest, I completely forgot to take pictures. So I’ll just show you a quick sketch of the before and after of today.)

To make sure this positive impact continues, I plan on talking to people who pass by the park to hear what they think about how it looks after I’ve cleaned up. Getting feedback like that can help me see if my efforts are really making a difference. I’ll also reflect on what I could improve next time, like maybe covering more of the park, bringing more supplies, or coming at a different time of day when more trash tends to build up. Small changes like that can help me keep improving and make the park an even better place for everyone.
