About Me – Chloe

My name is Chloe, and I am a 17 year old student that goes to Dr. Charles Best in British Columbia, Canada. I have one younger brother who is in grade 9, who just recently started attending Charles Best as well. On a day to day basis, my school schedule consists of peer tutoring, pre calculus 12, and chemistry 12. Out of these three courses that I am taking, peer tutoring is my favourite, this is because it is my least academic course and I am able to help the younger students understand something that I find easier.

My family is considered pretty average when it comes to traditions, values, or norms that may be different to other people. One holiday that my family celebrates that is connected to my culture is Chinese New Year, we gather with our families as exchange money that is in a red envelope. This envelope signifies good luck, prosperity, and a wish for a safe and peaceful new year. Most people know this about me, but I play hockey. Both my brother and I play hockey, it is a big part of our lives as my dad played as well. I have played hockey for 8 years, and cherish this sport deeply as it is where I have made most of my friendships. Hockey is my main passion, I spend lots of time on the ice; whether it is coaching, reffing, or evaluating during the beginning of the season. Playing hockey has opened my horizon and has allowed me to seek for new opportunities that many may not even think of.

As a returning Butterfly Effect member, I cherish the work that is being done, and I love reading other peoples journey’s. I decided to take butterfly effect for one last year because I had a new open-ended questions that I wanted to share and research with this community. I hope by the end of this, I am able to answer my question as well as teaching my peers what I have learned as well. My strongest trait or attribute would by my grit and determination. I value the time and effort people put into their work, and I am determined to do the same.

In my free time, I enjoy reading. I have lots of homework so it is often pretty hard to do so. A few of my favourite books are written by Colleen Hoover. I like this author because a lot of her books have turned into movies, which is very fun to watch. I enjoy connecting and comparing the books and the movies which is why I read mainly. I also recently bought a Kindle, which I find very helpful. This helps me stay motivated to read rather than scrolling on my iPhone. My goal is to read 10 books by the end of the year.

if I were to be placed on a new sports team, I would want to be the worst person on the team. This is because you are able to improve heavily due to the people around you. Your peers would be highly advanced and better meaning that you would improve at a faster rate than if you were the best player. This circumstance occurs often, especially in sports. Sports such as hockey, lacrosse, soccer, and basketball all have a wide range of abilities.

if I could have any occupation, I would want to be a doctor. This is because there’s a lot of going and if I could avoid that, that would be great. I find the human body, very interesting and would love to study that after high school. My plan one day is to become a doctor that helps everybody specifically a plastic surgeon.

To me, community means having a group of people who support and care about each other. It does not have to be a huge group or even people who live in the same place. A community can be your family, friends, school, or even people who share the same interests as you. I think community is about feeling like you belong somewhere and knowing that you have people you can rely on. It also means helping others and making sure everyone feels included and valued.

This year, I am open to doing something different than an inquiry. I have done an inquiry for the past 2 years and am debating on changing this year. I have a few unanswered questions which is why I am still debating on doing an inquiry. I think that my last project will be an inquiry but I am debating for this semesters.
