About Me – Kylie

Hi! My name is Kylie and I am a grade 10 French Immersion student at Dr. Charles Best Secondary School in Canada. I have 2 brothers and a dog named Chippy.

What is one thing about you that might surprise others?

One thing about me that might surprise others is that I love to read. I find often nowadays that many of my peers and children I encounter through volunteering tend to dislike reading, but I happen to like it a lot. Reading has always been something I enjoy, and for the past 3 years I have been keeping a log of the books I read each year. I set a goal in January and I log and rate the books I read each month. It helps me to track my progress and also motivates me to find time to read even when I am super busy.

What brought you to Butterfly and where do you expect it take you?

What brought me to Butterfly Effect originally was the school Informer. I decided to take the class again this year because I really enjoyed doing my inquiry projects last year, and speaking with the Kenyan students. This year, I hope to continue my research and maybe do an action or story project. I expect Butterfly Effect to provide more perspective into the way students live around the world, and further financial aid for our scholarship student.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time I enjoy reading, watching movies, and taking walks. I love taking walks when the weather is nice, especially with a friend. When I walk alone I like to listen to music or a podcast. I have started listening to more podcasts this year and I am also trying to get into audiobooks.

Would you like to be the worst person on the best team or the best player on the worst team and why?

I would like to be the worst person on the best team because I would be surrounded by people who could help me improve my abilities. If I were the best player on the worst team I would feel like I was holding myself back and also my skills would begin to match the people around me. However, being surrounded by players who are better than I am would cause my skills to match theirs, meaning I would improve.

Which one of the three categories of butterfly effect are you most interested (currently) in and why?

The category of butterfly effect in which I am the most interested right now is Inquiry. I love researching things in my free time, especially answering questions. I enjoyed my inquiry projects last year and I would like to continue doing them. Inquiry projects also give me an opportunity to learn more about everyday things, and also educate others like I did with my previous projects.

Thank you for reading and I’m excited for another year!
