Hi, welcome to my 2nd action blog post!!

For my action project I am planning to volunteer with the theatre company Theatrix.

I have already started with this, and I have helped out with 2 classes so far. I started my action by reaching out to the artistic director of the class and asking if she needed volunteers.

In the Ted Talk “Not All Giving is Good” the speaker mentioned that everything is complicated. I believe this means there are many sides to different perspectives, and I definitely agree with this. For example, donating clothes may seem like a helpful alternative to throwing them out, but many donated items end up in landfills.

Moreover, in zoos, giving animals food and shelter may seem kindhearted but in reality, this animal is no longer able to survive in the wilderness.

This shows that not all ideas that seem helpful are extremely impactful. Contrastingly I believe that even though things may be complicated we should still help where we can.

My specific action project may be complicated if students need help with projects. It may be immediately helpful to give them answers they need but it wouldn’t be helping in the long run. I need to help them learn on their own and give them space to grow.

I believe my action project is sustainable because it will have a long-term impact. I will be inspiring the next generation of kids to find passion in an activity I enjoyed. By helping and encouraging them I will make lasting impressions on their journeys in theatre. I have personally gained confidence from these courses so as a volunteer I will go out of my way to make sure the students feel the same.

This action creates opportunity. As a volunteer I will be passing on the knowledge I have onto the students. From there they will be able to create their own opportunities in the theatre world.

I will ensure I am being impactful by checking in with the students and asking them how I have been helpful and how I could improve. An expert I could consult for my action is the artistic director of the class. I have known her since I was 7 and started taking the class so if there’s anything I need to know I could ask her.

Thanks for reading my second blog post and I hope to see you for the next one!
