In your post, address the following:
1.) Provide a summary of the action you are planning and how are you going to start. The action I want to do this year also directly connects to one of the 17 sustainable goals I found the most important like my last year’s project. This year I want to hand out meals to the homeless with my family. Ideally, we’d go every weekend but since we won’t always be free and groceries aren’t cheap in BC I would like to do this at least once a month.
2.) One lesson in the talk is that ‘Everything is complicated’. Please reflect on this and provide some examples to support your reflection. Can you explain some of the complexity that you will face in your action? Some challenges I might face are not bringing enough food because I don’t know how many people live in the area where I will hand out food, but this is an easy fix because I can always just ask someone. Another challenge I might face is the fact that everybody might have different dietary restrictions and allergies so I can try to use food that’s free from common allergens, but I might not be able to make food that meets everyone’s dietary requirements.

3.) Is this action sustainable? Provide some specific examples to support your reasoning. The answer to this question isn’t an easy yes or no. The reason I say this is because obviously it is sustainable I the sense that there will for the most part always be homeless people who need a warm meal but no in the sense that I can’t continue to pay for the food out of pocket as the homeless population grows in Coquitlam.
4.) Is this action providing opportunity? How will you ensure you are making the positive impact that you intend? You could say this action provides homeless people with the opportunity to eat a meal that will warm them up in this cold weather but really, it just provides me the opportunity to help people other humans just like me have the basic right to a good meal when I can. I will ensure that I am making the positive impact that I intend by reviewing the city’s bylaws on food safety beforehand.
Try to find an expert to be part of your action. Who knows a lot about the area you are studying? Who could help you on your journey to make a difference?
I can reach out to some food banks in the tri cities and other organizations that give meals to the homeless and work with them.

Thank you for taking the time to read my 2nd blog post for my new action.
Until next time, Salma Abdi Hadi
