Hi everyone! This is my 2nd blog post, and today I’ll be creating a plan for my inquiry project. The question I chose is : How has feminism shaped the structure of modern society? It’s undeniable the effects of the acts of strong women are seen throughout every aspect of the daily life for all, but I’d like to explore deeper into what this looks like. I’ve split my research into the 3 steps below.
Step #1: What does feminism even mean? And why is it so often misepresented in media?
I’ve noticed that the word “feminism” has been thrown out as a only a buzz word in so many scenerios and situations where it doesn’t belong. In many political groups that word can cause messy debates and negative reactions, while in others it’ll be rewarded with applause. However I fear that in all this commotion, the beautiful origin and true definition of feminism has been lost. Researching the definition and intentions of feminism will guide me into identifiying real, and twisted ideas, and compare what it is now, and was before.

Step #2: Who started this movement? What did they do?
By studying the woman who decided to challenge the gender norms at the time will help me see how their ideas contributed to woman’s rights, education, politics and employment today. These people took the first step even when they were scrutinized and discouraged, so we could follow their steps today. I want to learned about what incouraged them to do this, and whether we still need to push this movement today.
Step #3: Why was feminism needed back then, and why is it still needed today?

Researching these 2 questions will help me to see the contrast of what feminism was 100 years ago when it’s affects weren’t as potent, and what it is now, to truly see the effects of modern feminism. Furthermore, I want to discover why some people are able to live in the affects of this movement, and why others are still living under inequality solely due to gender. I would like to explore this subject, and find out why we still need to speak up and advocate for the women and children that cannot.
Here are a few reliable sources I’ll need to execute this research task:
- https://www.unwomen.org/en/articles/explainer/what-is-feminism (UN women)
- https://www.apa.org/gradpsych/2006/09/feminism (American Psychological Assiociation)
- https://www.history.com/articles/feminism-four-waves (History.com)
- https://www.britannica.com/biography/Mary-Wollstonecraft (Britannica)
- https://www.un.org/en/global-issues/gender-equality (United Nations)
Asking this question is so important for me as a women, and will make me grateful and aware of the blessing it is to be a women in 2026 living in BC, with the same basic human rights as the other gender. I think its so important to know what I have and why I live the way that I live, and being intential in that process. 49.7% of the world population are women, and 100% of the population is born with a gender, and can be sujwect to gender inequality. Answering this question can make my community aware of the rights and privlieges that we all have due to this movement, and educate us about what feminism actually means, and what it does for all.
Thank you so much for reading!
