BLOG#2: In what ways has the evolution of communication technology shaped the course of human history?

Communication technology is evolved and advanced communication gadgets and skill used in the world today. The improvement of communication has been gradual through the years since the time of the stone age.

Round one# Evolution of communication technology through the existence of time

The use of technology in communication can be considered to be valid about 300000 years BCE through first the use of symbols. Among these symbols used are the cave paintings, pictograms, ideograms and many others(1). Around 3000 BCE, civilizations like the Sumerians and Egyptians developed writing systems. They used cuneiform and hieroglyphics to record information on clay tablets and papyrus. Writing marked a pivotal moment in human history, as it allowed knowledge to be preserved and transmitted across generations (1).

As time went by communication started evolving in early 15th century there came the printing press. The 15th-century invention of the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg revolutionized communication. Printed books and pamphlets became more accessible, spreading knowledge to a wider audience and laying the foundation for mass communication (2). Even though the machine was not a very well advance machine like the current it was what we could say served its purpose. It enhanced communication by writing faster and longer notes instead of the short notes that were written.

The 19th century brought about another breakthrough: the telegraph. In 1837, Samuel Morse developed the Morse code, a system of dots and dashes that could be transmitted over long distances using telegraph wires. The telegraph transformed long-distance communication and played a pivotal role in connecting the world. As time went by communication became faster better and well enhanced. But with if I was the year 1837 with the modern knowledge I have right now probably I would laugh in Morse’s face.

The late 20th century marked the birth of the internet, a transformative force that connected the world like never before. Email, a significant innovation, allowed for near-instant written communication across the globe, reducing the need for physical letters (3). The internet brought a very new face in the world of communication technology. With the ability to do research communicate with people from all over the universe the internet proved very handy. Even thought at the time it was still in its growing stage it went on ahead to evolve more and more until the realization of wat most people use now artificial intelligence (AI). By the realization of the internet, we can firmly affirm that as communication tech evolved, human civilization improved.

  1. Hello Peter, I enjoyed reading your post about the ways and how they changed how humans communicate. Even if some methods are simple and ineffective, I think each type of communication is necessary to what we have today. Since you have given the information on the evolution of communication, you could also list a few pros and cons that people had using those types of communication. For example, right now, we have AI. It can be a benefit to society as it can take over some tasks and come up with relevant information, but it can also be used with ill intentions such as using it to do homework, or rewording what others wrote. Keep up the good work!

  2. Hello Peter, I really enjoyed your blog post!

I liked how you included the very beginning of communication and didn’t just consider things from the late 1900’s when the internet was created. It is also nice how you looked a bit into the future and into artificial intelligence.
One thing that I think you should include is the rotary phone or telephone because this was a major form of communication in the mid-1900’s.
    Sincerely, Frederick

  3. Hi Peter!

This blog post was very interesting to read! I liked how you did not only stick to one main subject but because broad about when the internet was created as well, such as mentioning its effect over time, not just when it was created! This question is very relatable to everyone because, personally as someone who is always on my phone texting and communicating with others, I could not imagine carrying around a big telegraph or having to do other ways of communicating. If you’d like, you can also possibly research, what would have happened if we kept old technology like this, and maybe what would have happened if phones/calls on phones, were not created!
The blog post was very interesting to read, and was well-written! Good luck with your third blog post, and here are some links that can help with finding out what would have happened if phones were not made, and we still used old technology to communicate!

Good luck on your future posts!

    1. Thank you for the very much for the comment. It is very true it would be really weird if people were to carry telegraphs around. Thank you for the link and be sure to check out my other posts(sooon).

    2. Thanks for the idea, ill consider it in future researches. Communication is a really wide topic but surely really interesting be sure to check out my net post. And i appreciate the comment.

  4. Hey peter,
This sounds so interesting, can’t wait learn more. I never really learnt about this so i’m excited to read your post.
i found this website, it talks about the different forms of technology and how it was created, why it was created and the evolution
