Inquiry post #1- “How can being classified as a “gifted student” affect your mental health and wellbeing?”

Hi everyone! For my second project I am doing an Inquiry post. The question that this project will be focusing on is “How can being classified as a “gifted student” affect your mental health and wellbeing?” .

I chose to base my research around this question because it has been something that I have been questioning for some time now. Something I am really interested in is psychology and mental health and how different experiences can affect those things. The reason I am interested in this question specifically is because I have been ‘gifted program’ since grade three so this question also affects my personally. While being in the gifted program, I have never really been properly explained to as to what being “gifted” is and means and I know it’s the same for a lot of other gifted students that I know. In elementary school we were told that we are “different” from the other kids but for a lot of us we don’t really seem different. In most classes or grades are the same as other students and we can’t even tell who is gifted and who is not. I have heard about things like ‘gifted kid burnout’ but I have never really learnt about it. So I am left to wonder if being a “gifted student” is actually about being “smarter”, or if it is really more of a thing that affects our mental health?

Thank you for reading my blog post #1!
