Blog Post 1: Carmine the Rice Grain story

I felt like expanding on my previous story from the first term about politics explained with food. But this time, I feel like doing it from the perspective of one of the citizens since people don’t really talk about how these politics affect people at an individual level.

I want to begin my story with my character Carmine the rice grain. She is a new immigrant to this new kitchen arriving in the rice bag with others. Once she’s integrated into her new society she goes through the wonders of learning about media propaganda and media consumption in 2025 and experiencing how politicized our world has gotten and how detrimental it could get for the small people.

I want to commentate how these media sources actually make us a worse species.

The story will be set out like a diary entry from a rice grain immigrating to a new part of the kitchen. It’s gonna be almost like a slice of life show if that makes sense because I need to contrast what I’m saying with some other stuff for brevity. The first entry in their diary/journal entry will be equivalent to her coming off the boat and immediately seeing two protests and rallies against their immigration to this part of the kitchen while playing kitchen politics. One fighting for, and other against their immigration. Through this the entrance process of refugees and what they go through will be highlighted.

Using a character as unserious as a food grain will make me put across serious topics like Immigration, Media, Administrative problems and other heavy but mundane topics in a much lighter and digestible tone.

Writing down my ideas, unfiltered for 5 minutes straight felt very freeing. I didn’t have to worry about perfect sentences or structures and could just let my thought process flow to wherever it led me. The process did feel a little chaotic at first but I do understand its benefits as it let me think outside of the box.
