Hello! My name is Timothy Liu. I am a grade 11 student at Dr. Charles Best Secondary School, in Coquitlam, BC. A huge part of who I am is that I am a very extroverted person. I always love having friends around me, and they really get me through the day. I am very passionate about being a better person then I was the day before, when it comes to me as a person. This can include work habits, growing as a dancer, or being a better person each day. Charles Best provides me this kind of challenge, where it tests me everyday to become an improved self. I am really passionate about dance, specifically hip hop. I have been dancing ever since I was 4 years old, and I am very serious about it today. I love traveling, as I hope to move out of country some day. Some of my favourite subjects include English, Math, and Marketing. These course challenge me to my full potential, as I am still able to enjoy the course. I also have two cats, both tabbys, that are very independent yet affectionate.

What is your strongest attribute or trait?
My strongest attribute is that I am a very optimistic person. I believe that constant growth and effort will guide me toward the future I envision. For example, in dance, I always look for ways to push myself forward, to my fullest potential. I not only try and aim to be the best dancer I can, but also I am working towards joining my dream team in my local studio, which reflects my ambition and determination. In the long run, I want to expand beyond my Coquitlam. First, I dream to move to New York to live the city life that I have always desired. Showing consistent hard work in school will lead me to success to move there in the future. After that, it would be to Amsterdam to join the overall dance company that I think about every day. In school, I apply the same mindset, continuously striving to improve academically and challenging myself to achieve more each day. The mistakes I make in school drive me to become a better person academically than I was the day before. This kind of mindset shows just how determined and optimistic I am of my future goals. My optimism and determination, whether in dance or academics, are the qualities that will help me reach each stage of my journey. I believe this is my strongest attribute because it affects me in the long-term, where it pushes me to keep growing, no matter the challenges I face.

What is your passion?
My passion is dance. Dance is one of the things that will never leave myself. I think about it everyday, and it is what I am determined and passionate about in life. I love the way it gives me a release and break in my body, while being able to stimulate my mind. It challenges me in ways that are so fulfilling to overcome. For example, when I started at a new studio, I was the worst one there. I was not trained enough and didn’t have the proper skillset for the team. I took the road of improving, and growing in dance every day after that. The mental challenges I faced, like self doubt, are what pushed me to not give up on my passion. Working my way up is a fulfilling feeling that wont be forgotten, since I am now on the highest team level in my age category. When this kind of art is expressed, the feeling gotten out is healing. It is what I think about when I am stressed. To me, there are never ending goals, until you felt like you have reached a finish line. I hope to never find that finish line and to always stay passionate about this art.

What does the perfect “best friend” look like to you?
A perfect best friend is someone that accepts you for being your true self. In my eyes, if you are considering someone your best friend, you shouldn’t have to feel that you have to limit yourself from what you are saying. You shouldn’t be scared that they will judge you for your opinion, your jokes, or even just yourself. A best friend is someone who continuously supports you through your hardships and happily celebrates your victories. They are someone you can fully rely on, someone who will listen when you need to talk and challenge you when you need direction. They respect your boundaries but, if needed, aren’t afraid of pushing you. Most importantly to me, even during challenging times, having a perfect best friend brings out the best in you and makes you feel safe, appreciated, and understood. That to me, is the perfect best friend.

Which one of the three categories of butterfly effect are you most interested (currently) in and why?
The Inquiry section of the Butterfly Effect resonates with me the most. I’ve always enjoyed researching serious questions and contemplating on issues that concern those around me and myself. I really want to explore the psychology aspect of inquiry questions, and I believe the Inquiry category will allow me to explore deep into my topic. I really want to explore Self Identity, and this project, with consistent research will get me to go deep into it.

Hey Timothy, I hope that you are fine .You have really amazed me of you being an extroverted person thereby sharing the same ambition with me because I like staying around friends who give me company whenever I’m in need of it and also share more with them in daily life.
Hey Raphaella!
Thank you so much for your comment! I really appreciate your kind words. I’m glad we share the same ambition and that you also enjoy being around friends who bring positivity and support. It’s great to connect with someone who values the extroverted side and good company just as much as I do 🙂
