Story Blog Post #1 – (Title TBD)

For my second project this year, I’ve decided to do a story. It will definetly be a different experience than my first inquiry, but I am very excited to try a new type of project, especially since I love creative writing and haven’t done it in a while.

I first of all set a five minute timer to brainstorm a plot line idea, only having a very vague idea in my head, and this is what I came up with:
Gwen lives in a small town, her only company her best friend, Finn, hand her family. She is kind, soft-spoken and loves to help out. She is though a litle distant. Recently though, her best friend notices that she’s going on walks very often. She’s also started acting strange and doing some things she would never normally do. After a while, Gwen breaks down and says her strange behaviour is because of ‘the whispers’. What whispers? Her best friend gets more and more confused and concered about her behaviour until Gwen commits the unthinkable. Was she controling the whispers, or were the whispers controling her?

In terms of how I felt, the five minute brainstorm was quite, stressful. I was very rushedly writing, quickly noting everything that came to mind. I am not completely pleased with my result, there are some details I want to change and other areas I would explain in more detail, but all things considered, for a first brainstormed draft it’s not too bad. I don’t consider the challenge too bad though; the strict timer forced me to write quickly and jot down all my ideas, causing me to note down some interesting points I would not have considered if I was writing more leisurely. The time crunch also made me consider what was important for me to write down, helping me not overload the plot with unimportant details.

I think writing this story will turn out to be a very interesting and educational experience for me; I can’t wait to start!
