After completing the values activity I found out that my most important values are justice, equality, and freedom. Also that my least important values are tolerance, spiritual growth, and power. I think these results are spot on, and they represent my personal values correctly. The descriptions were accurate to what the words were and I could easily guess what some of the words were going to be based off the descriptions. My most important value is equality, I think this is because my parents always raised me to treat everyone equally. It has always been their most important rule. So now it is very important to me. Equality to me means treating everyone with respect, and kindness no matter who they are or what they look like. Overall having peace with everyone.
My example:
My cousin(Lila) and I always go on walks together. Especially in summer, we like to get Starbucks then walk FAR. Last summer when I got back from Croatia I could not wait to see her. The very first day I got back we went on a walk to Rocky Point. About halfway through our walk we spotted a dog stuck in the bottom of a fence with its leash wrapped around the wire. The owner was standing on the other side of the fence trying to unwrap the leash. The dog was clearly scared and kept moving around making it hard for the owner to untangle the leash. We walked over and tried to help. Eventually the dog was free, the owner thanked us then walked away. We felt very happy after that and I think this story shows how freedom is important to me and the people around me.
Future example:
For a future example the first thought I had was how I could show that justice is important to me. If a kid in my class was getting made fun of or teased I could stand up for them and get the other kid to apologize. This would demonstrate me getting justice, and equality for my peers.
I finished my research on the 17 sustainable development goals and I feel that for this specific project, my values align the most with goal 13 “climate action”. At this point in time goal 13 is my passion, the environment is a very important topic for me. I think this is because I love nature and I love being outside. So when the weather is off, or there is litter on the ground it affects me deeply. I think that people ruining the environment is unfair for the next generation, it’s not hard to treat nature well.
I have a couple of ways that I could try to help, but I’ve had an idea for the past couple of months what this project would be. I will be going different places around the community to pick up trash. The only problem I’ve seen with this idea is that it’s already been done. A lot of times. I do have an idea of how to differentiate my trash pick up from others. I am going to make it a Canadian wide(plus Croatia) trash clean up. I am going to reach out to family and friends and ask if they would participate in the clean up. I already have people in Ottawa, Tronoto, Croatia, and Yukon who have said yes. I think this would make my project stand out because it is on a larger scale.
