Hello there! Welcome to my first blog post for project two, where I will begin researching around my new inquiry question about the relationship between screen time and teenagers’ sleep quality. For this semester, I wanted to learn more about how daily screen time impacts teenagers’ sleep quality, especially since technology has become more and more involved in our everyday lives. I am curious about whether using devices before bed will have an impact on how well teenagers fall asleep and stay asleep, since many teenagers, including myself, spend a lot of time on devices, particularly before going to sleep.

This question had made me interested, since it connects with health and the common and ordinary of looking at screens. Sleep is definitely very important for mood, focus, and health, so I am curious and want to learn more about whether screen time can negatively affect sleep, and why it does. I have heard that screen time before bed is bad for you, so I want to learn why with more detail and a clear explanation, since I never really looked into it deeply. I am also curious about whether certain habits, such as reducing screen time and using devices before bed or using different types of devices, make a difference in your sleep quality.

Lastly, one more reason why I decided on this question is that it is not just a simple yes or no kind of question. Different people and teenagers may be affected in different ways, and it is most likely not a one solution fits all sort of scenario. There are many factors, like individual sleep patterns and whatnot, that can determine how someone’s sleep is affected. Overall, throughout this inquiry, I hope to be able to research in depth about my question, compare different perspectives, and find my own understanding of how screen time and sleep are connected.

Thank you for reading!
