I am planning to research three sub questions that are based off of main interest which is: “How does the amount of sleep individuals get affect their mental health and performance?.” So far, it has been known that sleep is an essential part of our day to day lives, yet many people do not prioritize it enough. Sleep is commonly overlooked when it comes to the physical and wellbeing, even though it is often sacrificed for other priorities such as work, school, or social life. Many may argue that they can function well on very minimalistic sleep, however some have realized that their lack of sleep can heavily affect their day. I wanted to research this topic to truly find out the affects and told sleep has on our day to day life when overused or even missed.

For my sub questions, I have decided to further research these three:
- How does the amount of sleep impact mental health and emotional well-being?
- Does the quality sleep affect an individuals performance in daily tasks such as school or work?
- What other factors influence mental health and performance when sleep is not considered?
Sleep can vary greatly from person to person, with some individuals getting the recommended amount while others consistently may not. By determining how much sleep a person gets, I was wondering if it directly affects peoples mental health and emotional state? It has been seen that getting enough sleep can improve mood and reduce stress, while lack of sleep may lead to anxiety, irritability, or even depression. I chose this sub-question because I was curious whether the number of hours slept plays a key role in stability and overall well-being. Many people experience mood changes based on how tired or how rested they are, which leads me to wonder how true this statement truly is. This can help me determine if simply increasing sleep can improve mental health, or if other factors are just as important.
I chose the second sub question because it builds on the main idea that sleep is not just above quantity, but also quality. Even if someone gets our sleep, poor quality of sleep, may leave a different effect which leads me to this question. It is clear that being well rested can improve concentration, memory, and productivity, but I continue to wonder how much sleep quality can affect our performance. Students and workers who are often well arrested may perform better in task however, if their sleep is interrupted, how many their performance suffer? This question helps me explore whether better sleep leads the better results in daily responsibilities and if improving sleep helps can help enhance overall success

For my last question, I wanted to research other factors that contribute to stress levels that can affect our performance when sleep is not considered. Fact, you’re such a stress levels, diet, physical activity, and relationships can all impact mental health and performance, even without considering sleep. I wanted to research how far this can go when sleep is not a factor to consider.
Some websites I can use to help me better understand and answer my sub-questions are:
- https://www.cdc.gov/sleep/about_sleep/sleep_hygiene.html
- https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/sleep-disorders
- https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/10-reasons-why-good-sleep-is-important
- https://www.apa.org/topics/sleep
overall, my main question is, how does the amount of sleep individuals get affect their mental performance this encourages me to better my understanding and help me reflect to my own sleep habits to impact and enhance my daily life. It leads me to think how my sleep schedule can affect my mood, focus and overall well-being as a plan for my future. I also plan to consider how important it is to maintain healthy, especially when other factors aside from sleep can heavily affect our lives. By researching this topic, it can lead me to a more balanced lifestyle that supports both productivity and health from my future.
