Hey, and welcome to my second blog post within my second project this year!
The second project I have chosen involves volunteering at various care centers, I plan to do this volunteering with my partner, Vicky, with whom I’ve worked before. To begin, Vicky and I will research the many different types of care centers in our area, such as child care centers or even medical care centers. We will read into the information about any centers we find and we will choose which ones fit us best. We hope to learn about all various types of caregiving, though we understand that it may be very difficult to find any volunteering positions involving medicine and science, just due to our age and lack of experience. However, we are excited to have opportunities to possibly assist with recreational sports, games, bingo, crafts, and anything else!

Alison Stuart’s “The Elephant in The Room” Ted Talk is an incredibly thoughtful, reflective, and captivating speech about volunteer work and the acts of giving that everyone should watch. After having seen the video, I thought about the various challenges that may present themselves as my partner and I continue to work on our project. First of all, the biggest thing with volunteering is always the schedule and the hours, sometimes it can be really difficult to find time that doesn’t conflict with anything else, but we are planning to do our best to avoid any problems with commitment. Another issue that may occur involves people, any work that involves other people can be difficult, merely due to different personalities, ages, accommodations needed. We hope to learn and improve the way that we can adapt and work with others, no matter who they may be.

Another significant question we must ask ourselves is “Is my project sustainable?”. This question is very crucial to a meaningful and impactful project! After some reflection and brainstorming, I do believe that my project will be sustainable, and I will continuously try my best to keep that way. From the perspective of my partner and I, this project will allow to form many new connections and give back to something bigger than ourselves. We will have the opportunity to learn from others and learn more about ourselves as well. We will try to come up with creative ways to use our skills to give back, and we hope that with these blog posts we could inspire someone else.
Hand in hand with sustainability, it’s quite important that this project isn’t just a one time thing that is soon forgotten, but rather work that is meaningful and can provide others with opportunities. As we will assist various care centers, we hope that this can provide extra help to the organizations and create opportunity for those we help. There could be various impacts on the people we meet as well as ourselves, we will learn more about the different careers out there and about our own strengths and skills, and we can assist to make difficult tasks or routines easier in the daily lives of those at care centers.

Thank you for reading!
