Blog post 2- Tedx Reflection and project plan

1.) Provide a summary of the action you are planning and how are you going to start.

For my action project i am planning to do a more environmental project this semester my plan is to recollect and throw away any garbage at our community parks. This will be a group project with Rima and Golsa. We are starting by choosing a park, bringing garbage bags and gloves, and making a plan for which areas we will clean first. The goal is to make the park cleaner and help people take better care of the community.

2.) One lesson in the talk is that ‘Everything is complicated’. Please reflect on this and provide some examples to support your reflection. Can you explain some of the complexity that you will face in your action?

TEDX talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPCWM6YCbjo

The TED talks about “everything is complicated” that allowed me to have a different perspective and open my mind for new ideas when approaching certain problems i may encounter. The speaker explains that helping others is not always simple, because good actions can sometimes have unexpected effects. Which can help when problem solving if the weather doesn’t work with us that week and being able to resolve small challenges so that we don’t freak out. In my action project, I may think cleaning a park is easy, but there are still many complications, such as how much garbage there is, whether the park has enough disposal bins, and whether people will continue to litter after we clean it. This may all happen, so we have to be ready to encounter any of these obstacles.

3.) Is this action sustainable? Provide some specific examples to support your reasoning.

This is sustainable because it can be repeated over time and it encourages long-term care for the environment. If my group cleans the parks only once a month, the effect will not last very long, but if we continue doing it regularly, it can create a lasting difference. Especially when others get inspired or simply look at the role model, they will follow along to do the same. Even if they do not pick up garbage in their free time, they will subconsciously stop throwing litter on the ground.

4.) Is this action providing opportunity? How will you ensure you are making the positive impact that you intend? This action project allows for others to join us and get inspiration to do something for our community

Yes, this action provides opportunity because it gives others a chance to get involved and make a positive difference in the community. The influence of one can change a community sooner or later the. Promoting awareness on litter that is thrown and that everyone is responsible for the environment. I can also talk to people in the community or park workers to understand what kinds of litter problems happen most often.

Try to find an expert to be part of your action. Who knows a lot about the area you are studying? Who could help you on your journey to make a difference?

I will be conducting this with my local adopted trail organization and Ms. Heather as she is experienced with this and often does community work at Mundy park, to get some extra insiders’ information.
