Hello and welcome to my blog post 2, in this post I will be providing my three steps of research for my project.
Step 1: How does sleep affect your brain? In this step, I will be researching the basic science of sleep to understand what sleep does for memory, focus, and learning which will eventually help me to solve my overall question. I can look at what happens during different stages of sleep and how it helps with memory, focus, and problem-solving. Understanding this will help me understand how sleep is directly connected to how well students can learn or focus in school.

Step 2: How much sleep do normal students actually get, and how does it compare to the amount of sleep we are supposed to get? In this step, I will look at studies and surveys that show real data to see how many hours of sleep normal students usually get during the week. I can compare those numbers to the recommended amount of sleep for students, which is usually higher than what students get. I can also explore the difference academically between the students staying and the students getting more sleep.

Step 3: Look at other things that may affect students’ sleep or learning? In this step I will research on things like stress, homework, screens, and school schedules which will help me understand why students might not get enough sleep and how that affects their learning. I can also look at lifestyle habits such as caffeine or inconsistent sleep schedules. By understanding these factors I can understand not just that students are tired but why.
