Blog post #7- what if there were more breaks during the school day?

A challenge that I had to overcome during this project was that there weren’t a whole lot of schools who actually changed their school schedules based on what scientists had found, so for some of my questions it was a little harder to find answers. It just meant spending a little more time looking up websites to find the few schools who have actually changed their school systems. Looking at all the different studies and the way that kids have been affected by the change has made me believe even more than I did at the start that the more breaks the better. For example, looking at the kid’s mental health alone should show that more breaks really do have a big impact.

I have said since I was little that when I grew up, I would like to be a kindergarten teacher, so having done the research and knowing what the breaks can do, I would let my students have more breaks. I hope that if other people start to see what more breaks during the school day does for students, they will also start to give kids more breaks to help them learn better and have more focus when they are in class.  Thank you so much for reading!
