Hello, and welcome to my third blog post! As mentioned in earlier posts, this second project of mine consists in the assistance at care centers. So, my partner, Vicky, and I have been working to continue and keep our project on going. Thus far, we have researched all the different care centers within reasonable distance, and we emailed three centers on the weekend. We weren’t very sure if we were going to get any response back, and we are very grateful that one of the centers, The Madison Care Center, actually had emailed us back and accepted our offer to help!
The Madison Care Center!

Vicky and I were so excited to have gotten an email back, and this is definitely something we would consider as one of our successes. Unfortunately, we are still so early in the volunteering part of the project itself, so we haven’t had many chances to have successes or challenges, but this was an amazing first step. Another very small success we’ve had is scheduling our visits and having open communication with the volunteer coordinator at The Madison Care Center. On the other hand, one of the challenges was getting a response back. This was something I had been quite worried about because while our offer may be kind, oftentimes, bigger establishments don’t always look for younger volunteers, or help all together. Another thing that had been difficult was planning our visit, both Vicky and I are very busy with school, sports, clubs, etc…, so finding a date that worked for everyone was a challenge. Along the lines of being busy and occupied, we had also taken some time to get back to the care center, and I would love to work on our time management and punctuality next time, which is just as important online as it is in person. To make sure we don’t keep anyone waiting on our responses too long, we will try to next time set a reminder, be realistic with our time, and not put things aside for later when we have free time1.

Using things like watches, clocks and timers can help with punctuality!

Also, using reminders or even your calendar can help you stay on track, and on time!
As our project progresses, we plan to finalize our schedules, and eventually visit The Madison care center for a tour of the property. We hope that at that time we will learn our ways around, and learn the rules, safety measures and everything else. Once that is finished, we would love to discuss our roles with the care center to know exactly what tasks we may be doing, i.e; helping with games, clean up, set up, something else entirely? And once we’re settled into a much more regular rhythm, we plan to make many visits to the care center and, hopefully, learn something new!
