What types of relationships are there?

Think of all the different kinds of relationship you have in your life. Family, friends, mentors, and even your partner. How did each of them play a role in shaping your values, behavior, and thoughts?

There are mainly 3 types of important relationships. Family relationships, friendships, and romantic relationships. (1)

But first, what is a relationship?

A relationship is a connection or bond between two or more people. It means how they relate to each other, interact, and share feelings, thoughts, or experiences. They can be between friends, family members, partners, or even colleagues, and often involve caring, trust, and communication. (2)

Family relationships:

A family relationship is the connection between people who are related by blood, marriage, or adoption. It includes parents, children, siblings, grandparents, and other relatives. Most family relationships are based on love, support, and care for each other. (3)

Friendships:

Friendships are a close relationships between two or more people based on affection, trust, mutual respect, and support. Friendships involve spending time together, enjoying each other’s company, and being mostly honest. (4)

Romantic relationships:

Romantic relationships are a special type of connection between two people that involves love, attraction, and emotional closeness that bonds the two together. Usually it includes feelings of affection, care, and commitment, where both people enjoy spending time together and supporting each other. (5)
