This week, our group discussed a date we were all available to participate in the clean up, and we decided that Lafarge would be a great location to put our goals in action. We are however pretty flexible with the location and timing, so it might change due to unforeseen circumstances. For example, if one of us would be away on a trip, or we have a very important test to study for. We have gathered up a good amount of cleaning supplies that we plan on using, so that won’t be too much of a worry. We also might talk with some teachers like Heather, who have a bit of knowledge in the subject and ask for their opinions and advice.

While we discussed some successes, we agreed that a big one for us was finding a time where we could all contribute, since volunteering with a school can really limit that availability window. Lafarge is also a great location, because there’s a lot of green areas around it as well. For example, if the park seems like it won’t need too much of a cleanup, we could use that time to clean up a nearby park instead, like the Glen park areas. That could be considered a supporting point because it’s kind of a back up plan if our original plan doesn’t pan out the way we intended. Some challenges we discussed would be hazards that might be in the area, like needles, sharp glass, and even in some extreme cases wildlife (though I highly doubt the last one). However, I don’t think it would be too much of a problem after I did some research. The website provided kind of a checklist to ensure all the safety measures are taken correctly, for example, they indicated to wash your hands always after the cleanup (1).
For the next meeting, we’ll focus on actually putting our plan in motion, seeing how the results are, and discussing our next steps. If the timing works out, we can definitely plan the cleanup, however it might also become a setback for us, we’ll have to see what happens next!
