Trash Clean Up – Blog Post #4

Welcome back! I have gotten more responses in the past week. I also picked up some trash on the May long weekend. It was fairly successful but I ran into a problem that many others were facing, which I will talk about soon. In the last post I talked about how I haven’t got as many responses as I thought I would, but now I have so many it is hard to feature all of them. I will share majority of them here, and try to fit the rest in the next post. Most people who have sent me photos are apologizing for sending the photos in past the due date, so I am guessing that even when my project ends I will still be getting photos.

Something that went really well was actually my personal trash pick up. I went with my mom, dad, and brother. we went around our community, specifically parks and schools. We all split up and has a competition of who could pick up the most litter. I won. Something interesting we found was a plastic bag full of outdoor mats hanging on a fire hydrant.

This photo was from my friend in Calgary, he said that he only got a few things because it was hard to find litter around his neighbourhood.

One of the big issues I’ve been having is that no one can seem to find excess amounts of litter around their community. which is a good thing! But my project is centred around picking up litter so this makes things a little harder. I have multiple examples of this from my friend Mason, he said that his town was very clean. He walked around the local parks and schools and could only find a couple items. My family also noticed that there were smaller pieces of trash instead of bigger items. we think this is because most people pick up a big piece of trash rather then a smaller piece. often because they think the bigger the size the bigger the problem, which is actually not true. Smaller pieces have a higher chance of releasing micro-plastics which is super dangerous for our environment.

This is a photo of my uncle standing on a huge pile of bottles behind my dad’s store. They were getting prepared to go to the return-it depot. You get 10 cents per bottle recycled, and he was helping raise money for the centennial dry grad. Last year the proceeds went to the Charles best dry grad.

Also here is my aunt showing her recycling, because recycling is a huge way to make sure our planet stays healthy as well!

Next I will be putting together my next blog post, I might possibly go to to pick up trash because I have a better place that I think might have more litter. I want to make a collage of all the bags put together to show how even doing a small act of service can build up and become a big deal to make a big change. 1)I also found this page where they explain how easy it is to clean up your community! They break it up into steps so anyone can do it. “Anyone who enjoys a pristine neighbourhood, park, beach, or public walkway.”
