Hi everyone, this is my blog post #3. Unfortunately, due to my age I am not allow yet to volunteer in senior care centres. Instead, I have decided to do a trash pick up project. Even though some people also have decided to do a similar project I think it is still a good opportunity to help our community.
1.) Where are you with your action? (e.g. what involvement have you had so far? Describe with examples)
Currently, my project is on its preparation phase. I have organized a community cleanup with some friends to help keep the environment clean in our community. Moreover, I have already bought the necessary materials such as trash bags and gloves, and I found tongs to collect trash safely since there is some garbage which can be dangerous. In addition, I have talked with my friends about the possibility of creating a poster to raise awareness about how people can contribute to their communities.
2.) What are some successes that you have had? Provide specific examples.
I have had some success so far on my project. First, I have come up with ideas for the poster, and I am in the process of buying the necessary materials to create it. In addition, I have managed to find a balance between my school and extracurricular responsibilities while planning my action project. This experience has helped me improve my time management and organizational skills.
3.) What are some challenges that you have faced? Have you been able to overcome them? If so, how? Provide specific examples. If not, can you problem-solve some ideas that might work for next time or if a similar situation arises? Again, provide specific examples.
So far, I’ve had to overcome a few challenges to make this project happen. First, it was hard to find a day when all my friends could participate in the cleanup, since we’re still in school. To overcome this challenge, I contacted everyone and suggested we do the cleanup over the weekend. Another challenge was finding the right equipment, especially tools for safely collecting trash. At first, I couldn’t find anyone who had them, but after asking several people, I found someone willing to lend them to me. This experience taught me the importance of planning an action project in advance and asking for help when needed.
4.) What are you doing next and why?
On Saturday, I am doing a cleanup activity with my friends at Good Neighborhood Park and Blue Mountain Park. We will pick up trash, and if it is possible, we will separate recyclable materials into their proper category. I also would like to take photos to document the cleanup and poster to show the positive impact it has on our community. This action is very important because it creates a healthier and safer environment for everyone, while also encouraging people to protect our community by taking care of public spaces.
