Hi everyone, this is my blog post #5. Hope you enjoy! 🙂
1.) Where are you with your action? (e.g. what involvement have you had so far? Describe with examples)
This past weekend, I have done my community cleanup activity with my friends. We went to two parks (Blue Mountain and Good Neighborhood Park) because I thought that these two parks together, I could achieve a better cleanup. My friends and I arrived at the park around 11am and started in Good Neighborhood Park. Then, we left through the garbage bags and walked to Blue Mountain Park. We stayed there for about 2 hours.
2.) What are some successes that you have had? Provide specific examples.
My friends and I had a successful day cleaning two parks. We started by picking up trash on the sidewalks. We saw a lot of garbage near the trees and the playground. We even found a shoe on the sidewalk. After finishing the cleanup, I separated the garbage into two categories (general waste and recyclables) while using the information of two websites and an online video.(1)(2)(3)

3.) What are some challenges that you have faced? Have you been able to overcome them? If so, how? Provide specific examples. If not, can you problem-solve some ideas that might work for next time or if a similar situation arises? Again, provide specific examples.
I have overcome a few challenges in my cleanup activity. First, when my friends and I arrived first at Good Neighborhood Park, we weren’t sure how to split into groups to make faster progress. To solve this, I decided it was best to split into pairs and go to the opposite ends of the park to start. Second, when I arrived at Blue Mountain Park, I realized that I did not have all the posters or tapes. So, I have decided to go Blue Mountain during the following week to put up the posters. Third, at Blue Mountain Park, I couldn’t take enough pictures to put on my blog post. To solve this problem, I will go again next week to do a cleanup activity although I will just go with a few friends.

4.) What are you doing next and why?
On Tuesday or Wednesday, I will go to Blue Mountain Park on Tuesday or Wednesday to complete the activity by putting up the posters around the park to raise awareness in the community. Also, I will start working on my presentation (Blog Post #6) and I will include the pictures I will take.

Thank you for reading my post! 😀

Hi Caetana,
I was surprised to find that we shared the same topic! After reading through your blog post, I noticed that you shared a detailed, thoughtful, and creative reflection of your action project. I could relate that we also found random things when picking up garbage. Like the shoe on the street, we found wires, bandages, and toilet paper. It is very important to stay aware when picking up garbage. I recommend that next time, you should wear gloves or protective gear to ensure that you are safe! Overall, very well written and good use of original images. Can’t wait to hear all about it on Friday!
Hi Caetana!
I really enjoyed reading your post regarding your cleanup project. It’s great to see how you and your friends took the initiative to clean up parks in your community. I thought it was impressive that you sorted the garbage using information from online sources. I also liked that you reflected on each challenge you encountered, while finding practical solutions to overcome them. Your idea of raising awareness through posters is a great idea that will definately encourage others to help keep parks clean! Did you find anything surprising during your cleanup?
I’m excited to read more!

Hello Caetana! I really liked how you took initiative to clean up two different parks, that shows a lot of effort and commitment to your project. It was also interesting how you worked with your friends and organized yourselves into pairs to make the cleanup more efficient. That stood out as a smart way to solve a challenge and get more done.
I also thought it was great that you separated the garbage into recyclables and general waste using outside resources. That shows you weren’t just cleaning up, but also thinking about the environmental impact in a deeper way.
One idea that might make your project even stronger is adding a bit more detail about how much trash you collected or how the parks looked before and after this could really highlight the impact of your work.
How do you think putting up posters will change people’s behaviour in the park? Do you think it will help reduce the amount of garbage over time?
Keep up the awesome contributions to our environment!
