Blog #7: Why and how do people experience déjà vu?- reflection

My initial question for this research project was, Why and how do people experience déjà vu?

Throughout this inquiry project, one challenge I had to overcome was finding information that was easy to understand but still reliable. Since scientists do not completely agree on why déjà vu happens, I found it difficult to compare different theories and decide which information was most important to include. Many websites had very different information. I overcame this challenge by using reputable sources, taking notes in my own words and using my own ideas, and using the ideas and facts that appeared in multiple sources.

This inquiry changed the way I think because I realized that not everything in science has a definite answer. Before this project, I thought there would be one clear explanation for why people experience déjà vu. Instead, I learned that scientists are still researching the brain and developing theories based on evidence. It taught me that asking questions and continuing to investigate is an important part.

This investigation may impact my future decisions by encouraging me to be more curious and open-minded. This question made me, want to research topics like this more deeply and consider different perspectives. It has also made me more interested in how the brain works and the field of psychology which I will definitely keep researching more about.

I think this investigation could have an impact on others both locally and globally because many people experience déjà vu and wonder what it means. So, it could spread awareness. Learning that déjà vu is usually a normal part of how the brain processes memories may make people more aware if they have have experienced it before. It can also increase more awareness about brain health and help people understand that, even though déjà vu is harmless, frequent or more intense episodes may sometimes be worth checking up with a professional doctor
