Blog Post 7 Project 2 – Reflection Post

Hello everyone, and welcome to my final blog post for this inquiry project. Over the past several weeks, I have researched how the loss of a parent affects teenagers emotionally, socially, and academically. This topic was very important to me because my dad passed away from cancer in January. I chose this inquiry question because I wanted to learn more about what teenagers go through after losing a parent and see how my own experiences compared to what researchers have found.

One challenge I faced during this project was researching a topic that was very personal to me. Some of the articles and studies were difficult to read because they discussed feelings and situations that I could relate to. Another challenge was finding information that focused specifically on teenagers instead of grief in general. I overcame these challenges by taking my time, looking at different sources, and focusing on learning as much as I could about the topic.

This inquiry changed the way I think about grief and loss. Before starting this project, I mostly thought about the emotional side of losing a parent. Through my research, I discovered that grief can affect many other parts of a teenager’s life, including friendships, family relationships, school performance, and future goals. I also discovered that everyone experiences grief differently, and there is no single way that people are supposed to cope with loss.

This investigation will impact my future decisions because it has made me more aware of what other people might be dealing with. I discovered how important support systems can be and how much of a difference friends, family members, teachers, and counsellors can make. In the future, I think I will be more understanding and patient with people who are going through difficult situations because I know that everyone handles challenges differently.

Overall, this inquiry project helped me discover much more about grief and its effects on teenagers. It gave me a better understanding of how losing a parent can affect different parts of a person’s life and showed me the importance of support and understanding. I think this investigation can have an impact on others both locally and globally because loss is something that affects people everywhere. By learning more about how losing a parent affects teenagers, people may become more aware of the challenges grieving teens face. This could encourage people to offer support, listen more carefully, and help others feel less alone during difficult times. Thank you for following along with my inquiry project and reading my blog posts throughout this journey.

  1. Hi Dylan!
Thank you so much for sharing your approach towards grief, and what you have learned on this tumultuous journey through Social Responsibility! It was really insightful.
I loved the images you used, as they provided a great support to your text and helped me digest your formatting!
Next time, I would maybe use more examples as how different people generally can grieve. Here’s an article to help with that!
