We made it to the end, which means we need to reflect on this semester’s project. This semester I decided to choose an inquiry project with the question of “How does the way a writer uses different writing styles in the same sentence alter the context of a question?” To reflect, I will be answering questions from A to D. These questions are A. What challenges did you overcome throughout this inquiry project? How did you go about overcoming these challenges? B. How did this inquiry change the way you think? A. How did this investigation impact your future decisions? And D. What impact will this investigation have on others locally and globally?
a. What challenges did you overcome throughout this inquiry project? How did you go about overcoming these challenges?
One challenge I faced during this inquiry project was finding reliable sources that directly connected to my question. Since my topic was about writing styles and how they affect the context of a question, I had to research many different areas such as tone, diction, syntax, rhetorical styles, and audience reactions. To overcome this challenge, I used trusted academic websites and carefully read through many articles to find information that related to my inquiry question. I also organized my research into different categories, which helped me understand the topic more clearly.
b. How did this inquiry change the way you think?
This inquiry changed the way I think about communication and writing. Before this project, I thought that questions mostly depended on the words being used. Now I understand that writing style, tone, sentence structure, and context can completely change how a question is interpreted. I learned that the same question can sound polite, rude, persuasive, sarcastic, or emotional depending on how it is written. This has made me pay more attention to the way people communicate and how messages can be understood differently by different audiences.
c. How did this investigation impact your future decisions?
This investigation will impact my future decisions by helping me become a more thoughtful writer and communicator. In the future, I will be more careful when choosing words, especially in emails, school assignments, text messages, and social media posts. I now understand that language can influence people’s emotions and reactions, so I will try to make my writing clearer and more appropriate for my audience. This knowledge will also help me avoid misunderstandings when communicating with others.
d. What impact will this investigation have on others locally and/or globally?
This investigation can have an impact on others because communication is important everywhere in the world. Locally, it can help people understand how writing styles affect conversations at school, work, and in everyday life. Globally, it can help people become more aware of how language influences opinions, emotions, and understanding online. As more people communicate through social media and digital platforms, understanding writing styles can reduce misunderstandings and improve communication between different groups of people and cultures.
