My name is Namiko, I’m 15 years old, I was born in Vancouver and live in Port Moody. I go to Dr. Charles Best Secondary School, the areas I’m most interested in are the sciences and socials. I do enjoy all general science but I have more excitement learning about biology and how things work and socials is more so interesting because you get to see how many things have evolved. I have two sisters, one is in grade 12 at Best with me and my younger sister is still in middle school for her final year. My mom is Japanese and my dad is Dutch but they’re both first generation Canadian.

My passion is watercolour, It’s an activity that I really find joy in doing. It gives me a sense of excitement and serene at the same time. I love how the colour blend and fade together without controlling them. I’m always open to trying new techniques and improving my skills so I can be better than before. It’s a fun way to express myself and what I admire.

My strongest trait is my dependability. I feel it builds trust between myself and the relationships of people I care about, proving that I’m reliable and that they can always count on me. It shows that I have a sense of responsibility, I can commit to something or someone and always follow through. Having this trait can help me succeed in the future, knowing that it is a trait that’s important in workplaces where teamwork is key.

When I need to relax, after a long day at school or emotionally exhausting weekend, I make my room more comfortable by creating a calm ambience. I start by eliminating piercing lights and loud noises. Then I open my window for fresh air and if I’m lucky, It’ll be raining, so I can listen to the calming sound of raindrops. After that, I light a candle and finding a comfortable spot on my bed. Then I either wind down by watching a movie or by listening to some music.

A best friend, to me, is someone who you can be vulnerable with, someone you can sit beside in complete silence feeling awkward. They’re the person you feel safe expressing your opinions to and the one you can talk to when somethings bothering you. You can argue with them and learn from conflict and have an outcome of an even stronger friendship. You don’t need to have known them your whole life or have visited their house a million times. What matters is the feeling of comfort and home that natural comes when you’re with them.

I’m interested in doing an inquiry project because it would help me think independently and rely less on others for answers. It lets me investigate a topic for myself and understand it more deeply. It also builds important skills in research, evaluating sources and recognizing reliable information, that are skills I’ll need in the future. by exploring a topic through inquiry, I can connect patterns and ideas to see and understand the underlying effects more clearly.
