Hello! My name is Victoria, but I prefer and am called Vicky for short. I’m Polish, for the time being I live in Coquitlam BC, and I grew up in Burnaby BC. I am currently fourteen and I am in grade ten at École Charles Best. On the subject of school, I have a liking towards most subjects, but out of them all I like English the most and Math the least. Even though I am not talented in writing, I enjoy reading stories and attempts to create my own. Most of the time I am an extroverted person, though sometimes when I don’t feel comfortable I tend to fall into the background.
Share some of your culture or family values, traditions, laws or norms that might be interesting to people who do not know your culture. What is one thing about you that might surprise others?
Something that can be shocking in polish culture is prominently celebrating Name Day, instead of a birthday. As a Polish person my culture is very Christian, so most holidays abide by saints and days of worship. Thus, Name day is a holiday tailored to a specific saint which you are named after. For instance, my name Wiktoria, in polish, is the 23rd of December. Celebrating Saint Victoria of Tivoli, a virgin martry and Christian noblewoman. Traditionally, if you name has many days, as mine, you would celebrate on the one preceding your birthday. In addition, something that might surprise others is that I enjoy drawing and creating different things by hand, even if I appear to be more technological.
What do you like to do in your free time?
During my free time I enjoy consuming different types of media. Frequently, I partake in analyzing shows and films. I find that doing this helps me understand different social settings and various perceptions, growing a wider range of understanding the word around us. Furthermore, I like to watch and read different news articles differing from each continent and stations. I helps me grasp the actions and tragedies happening and diverse takes on topics to create my own opinion and views. In all, I like to consume media because it aides me to learn about the world from others imaginations or experiences.
Which one of the three categories of butterfly effect are you most interested (currently) in and why?
Out of the three categories of the butterfly effect the one I am most interested in is the action. I find that in doing this option I am able to create a positive impact for those around me; including myself, my neighbors and community. It gives me a sense of fulfillment and others the sense of happiness. I’m choosing this actions so I get the ability to cause positive change for everyone.
