Hi! My name is Sydney McNaughton, and I am currently a Grade 12 student at Dr. Charles Best Secondary School. For fun, I enjoy sewing and baking; my favourite thing to make is chocolate chip cookies. I also play field hockey and basketball for fun.
I chose to take Social Butterfly because it will give me the opportunity to explore topics I’m passionate about that I don’t usually get to research in my other classes. My strongest attribute is that I’m very understanding. I take the time to listen to people and consider their perspective before reacting. This helps me build deeper connections with others and handle situations calmly and respectfully.
One thing that might surprise others about me is that I can be very extroverted once you get to know me. At first, I come across as pretty quiet, but once I feel comfortable, I become very talkative.
If I could have any job right now, I would be a labour and delivery nurse. I’ve wanted to be a nurse since I was little. I want to go into labour and delivery because I find pregnancy and the birthing experience so fascinating, and I think it would be a fun job to help bring life into the world. Being a part of bringing someone’s baby into the world would also be very meaningful because I would be a part of making so many people happy.
If I had to choose between being the worst player on the best team or the best player on the worst team, I would choose to be the worst player on the best team. The reason for this is because being surrounded by stronger players would push me to improve, and I would rather win as part of a team, even if all I contribute is cheering.
I am interested in doing an Inquiry project because it gives me the chance to dive deeper into topics I’m passionate about and learn in a way that goes beyond the work I do every day in my other classes.
