Blog Post #1

Hello everyone, and welcome to my first official blog post of the semester.

My three most important values are spiritual growth, family and integrity. My three least important values are recognition, risk and power. I completely agree with these results. Spiritual growth is number one for me as a Muslim I am always trying to be a better Muslim as well as a better person and I feel having that connection to God gives me a purpose and keeps me focused in this life filled with distractions. My family matters a lot to me as well I feel that having a good connection with your loved ones keeps you away from bad things because you know they’re always supporting you. Integrity and sticking to your morals are essential to living a fulfilling life in a sense that you don’t live your life just to please other people but you also honor them. Risk and power aren’t very important to me because I’d rather make calculated decisions instead of rash ones although a little spontaneity here and then can be fun. Power and being able to influence people aren’t very important to me if you don’t have compassion, justice or integrity because otherwise you’re just a manipulator not a leader. Lastly recognition is important to a certain extent so people can feel valued and seen but if people do things just for recognition which they often do that’s when it becomes a problem. I find it interesting that my values are almost exactly the same as last year except for the fact that I now value integrity over community and leadership over recognition.

I would say that number 16 peace, justice and strong institutions aligns the most with my values specifically integrity. I would say my passion is number 6 clean water and sanitation because water is the basis of all life and a nice clean cup of cold-water tastes better than anything else and it’s sad that so many people don’t have that luxury and have to drink dirty polluted water and risk getting sick just to stay alive. Another reason why I chose water is because the Prophet Mohamed peace and blessings be upon him said that the best form of voluntary charity is potable water. I would also like to give zero hunger an honorable mention because it is also a basic necessity that billions of people are deprived of even though over a billion tonnes of food are wasted each and every year. Since I can’t directly address these problems, myself I can raise money literally anyway possible like a bake sale or doing odd jobs like cleaning windows and then donating that money to an organization that can make a difference like life water international or water.org. One specific action I can do to address this situation indirectly is to find a team of volunteers to walk people’s pets for example and donate 100 percent of the proceeds to charity.

Thank you guys for once again reading my blog post. Hope to see you again soon!
