For my Inquiry project this semester, I will be researching the question: “To what extent do parents’ lives influence their children’s futures?”

This question is of interest to me, first of all, because I am very interested in learning about human dynamics. When I was in elementary school, my dream job was to be a therapist because I found it so interesting to hear about my friends’ problems and struggles and help them, as best as a third grader could. The way humans act, and the science of relationship dynamics, continues to be a notable interest of mine. Human brains are so complex, and the mysterious and unique way in which people form decisions and perceive problems is so fascinating to me. No two people have the exact same view on a situation, and in this project, I want to research whether their parents’ lives have an influence on that view.

Another reason why I am interested in this question is all the unknowns I have about my own future. I have always been very indecisive; it takes me forever to even make the smallest decisions. Especially now that I’m forced to think about life after high school, dream universities and future careers, I realize just how much I don’t know. I don’t know what post-secondary institution I want to go to, and I really don’t know what future job I want to get. There are so many things I haven’t decided on yet; I wonder whether my parents’ life paths might be able to give me some insight into what will come of my life. In researching this question, I hope to perhaps get some answers into what my undecided future will be like.
I am thrilled to start researching this question, and I can’t wait to do more research.
