Blog #2: Project Plan

Inquiry question: Why do certain memories stay with us longer than others?

1. Three steps for my research

Step 1: Understanding how memory works

First, I will research how the brain creates, stores, and retrieves memories. I will learn about the different parts of the brain involved in memory, especially the hippocampus. This will help me understand how memories form and why some are easier to remember than others.

Step 2: Exploring the role of emotions and personal experiences

Next, I will investigate how emotions and personal experiences affect our memories. I will research why important or emotional events, like exciting experiences or meaningful moments with family and friends, can stay in our minds for a long time. This will help me understand why some memories are stronger than others.

Step 3: Discovering what helps memories last

Finally, I will research how sleep, repetition, and remembering past experiences affect long-term memory. I will also explore why certain sounds, smells, or pictures can bring back old memories. This will help me connect my research to everyday life and answer my inquiry question.

2. Five valid sources

These sources are from reliable medical and scientific organizations and can help me research my question.

3. Implications for myself and my community

This question will help me understand why I remember certain experiences clearly while forgetting other things. It could also help me understand how emotions, sleep, and repetition affect my memory, which could be useful when studying for tests and learning new information. For my community, this research could help students and teachers understand how memory works and how to make learning more effective. It could also help people appreciate the importance of meaningful experiences and understand why memories play such an important role in our lives.
